Home Remedies for Sore Feet

If your job requires you to spend a lot of your day walking or standing, you know what it's like to have sore feet all of the time. But even a long, fun day of shopping can leave you with sore feet. If you have throbbing, aching, sore feet, here are some home remedies that will help ease the pain.

Elevate Your Sore Feet
Lie down on your back and raise your sore feet so that they are at least a foot above your head. This will especially help if your sore feet are also swollen. While in this position, let yourself relax and take it easy. Listen to some soothing music, or watch your favorite movie on television.

Give Yourself Sore Feet a Massage
A foot massage is great for sore feet. If there's no one around to give you this treat, you'll just have to do it yourself. Place a tennis ball (or any soft, squishy ball of a similar size) on the floor. Spend a few minutes rolling each foot across the ball, from your toes to your heel. And don't forget your arches. This massage will help soothe and relax your sore feet.

Soak Your Sore Feet
This is the most tried and true remedy for sore feet. And whether you soak your sore feet in warm or cool water doesn't really matter. Whichever you prefer will make your feet feel much better. Just don't use water that's too hot or too cold. If you like, you can powders made for foot soaks, which you can find at the drug store, to the water.

Now that you know how to deal with your sore feet, are some ways to prevent, or at least lessen, sore feet pain.

Wear Well-Fitting Shoes to Prevent Sore Feet
The better your shoes fit, the less you will suffer from sore feet.
• Wearing shoes that are too tight can cause sore feet. Since your feet tend to be smaller early in the day, buy any new shoes later in the day, when your feet will be bigger.
• Shoes that are too tight or don't fit comfortably can cause sore feet. So, before you buy new shoes, walk around in them to see how they feel. Make sure they aren't too tight, they don't rub against your heel, and there's plenty of wiggle room for your toes. Don't buy shoes that feel too tight hoping they will stretch once you start to wear them. Only buy shoes that fit comfortably from the start.
• One way to prevent sore feet is by wearing shoes that give you good arch support. If the shoes you already own don't have much arch support, take a trip to the drug store and pick up some arch support insoles. And take a look at the other available insoles, too. They may be able to help with a lot of your sore feet problems.
• Running shoes and walking shoes are good choices for sore feet sufferers because they were designed for people who tend to give their feet a good workout.
• You don't have to accept sore feet as a normal consequence of wearing high heels. You can prevent a lot of your sore feet problems by avoiding heels that are more than an inch and a half high. Wearing shoes that are too high can cause you unnecessary pain, and possibly cause permanent damage to your feet.

No one likes having sore feet. But, follow these home remedies, and you can soothe the aches and pains away.
