Unfortunately, living in a world filled with advertisements and media
influences, we are surrounded by diet, food, and weight images
everywhere we look. There is a new diet fad every few months, diet
warnings of what to eat and not eat, diet tips, etc. Many of these diets
are ridiculous and use the media to try to get people to buy certain
products. These advertisements and claims tend to create a culture where
we are never supposed to be satisfied with our bodies! However, some
humor may be found in the absurdness of many of the diet and weight loss
gadgets that have emerged throughout the years. The following in a list
of some of the worst and most ridiculous diet gadgets….and yes….people
did buy these!
1. Get Slim Slippers: these slippers are supposed to
slim you down by using by using magnets, reflexology science, and
gravity. Taken together, these help to "naturally" increase your
metabolism and activate nerves connected to digestion and eating habits.
2. Eyeglasses: There were eyeglasses being sold claiming to suppress
the appetite by using color lenses. These lenses were supposed to
project a certain image onto people's eyes to lesson the desire to eat.
(What did they see….I wonder….)
3. Earrings: weight-loss
earrings were being sold that were custom-fit to the person's ears. They
were supposed to fit the ear while hitting points similar to those in
acupuncture that aid in controlling hunger.
4. Svelt PATCH: This
is a patch that a person can stick anywhere that is supposed to trigger
fat burning, absorb fat, stimulate the thyroid, stimulate the
metabolism, fight water retention, control appetite, and help prevent
muscle loss. Quite the list of claims!
5. Shoe Insoles: These
are insoles that a person is supposed to slip into their shoes they have
little knobs that are supposed to hit certain reflex centers through
acupressure and make you look slimmer.
6. Bliss Ray of Hope:
Sunscreen that is supposed to help you look thinner by using caffeine
molecules. Imagine that…get a tan and look slimmer all in one day!
7. Slim Fit 20: Caffeine tights….who said wearing tights can't be
beneficial? These claim to help people look slimmer by using body heat
to stimulate the caffeine in the tights which then stimulates your
metabolism.
8. Promise: A lip balm appetite suppressant. They
say that is you want to eat or snack, you apply this lip balm and
suddenly your appetite will be curbed!
9. The Vacunaut: a fat
burning wetsuit that helps you lose weight just by wearing it while you
work out. (The picture of the person wearing the suit in the
advertisement is one to check out!)
10. SLIMist: a spray that you are supposed to inhale before you eat to help you eat less.
It is amazing to see some of the products out there on the market.
